NEW  F.A.C.T.S. — Fire Alarm Code Test Software

(Can be used to simulate the NICET "Pearson Vue" electronic exam.  Is also good preparation for IMSA or NTS Exams, as well as state licensing or low voltage apprenticeship tests.)

We have been selling Fire Alarm Practice Exam software since 1999.

For many, the easiest way to begin to train for any Fire Alarm certification or licensing exam is to break down studying for an entire exam, into smaller pieces.  Most technicians don't know where to begin to study and may feel overwhelmed; this software program helps guide them through the process.   One advantage of using our software is the ability to work at home, alone, without the pressure of sitting in a group with other technicians.   For those who like to work at their own pace, this is ideal.  Whatever your need for fire alarm practice questions, this program is a simple way to train technicians for their next fire alarm test.    A total of 395 Level I and II questions!

Quiz Option #1:  Purchase Individual Quizzes, for selected areas of study

Test Option #2:  Purchase discounted Bundled Suite of all quizzes in that Level

Exam Option #3: Purchase all questions for that Level, combined into a single "Fire Alarm Maxi Exam" (FAME).  Extensive exam consists of all the questions from every quiz in that Level.  Are you up to the challenge?

NOTE:  The color icons used in our quiz questions match the quick-locating visual icons provided in our Classroom Edition© of NFPA 72, sold below.

NICET now gives a separate exam for each of the four Levels.  Caution. Do not purchase any NICET material that refers to "Work Elements"!  The new Pearson Vue test is NOT based on this old material!

Excerpts from the "To Really Learn, Quit Studying and Take a Test" published January 20th, 2011.

The Purdue study supports findings of a recent spate of research showing learning benefits from testing, including benefits when students get questions wrong.

“The struggle helps you learn, but it makes you feel like you’re not learning,” said Nate Kornell, a psychologist at Williams College. “You feel like: ‘I don’t know it that well. This is hard and I’m having trouble coming up with this information.’ ”

But “when we use our memories by retrieving things, we change our access” to that information, Dr. Bjork, a psychologist at the University of California, Los Angeles, said. “What we recall becomes more recallable in the future. In a sense you are practicing what you are going to need to do later.”

Dr. Kornell said that “even though in the short term it may seem like a waste of time,” retrieval practice appears to “make things stick in a way that may not be used in the classroom. “It’s going to last for the rest of their schooling, and potentially for the rest of their lives.”

INFORMATION IS REQUIRED BY CODE.  NFPA 72 requires information for several items on this self-adhesive tag be to "permanently identified at the fire alarm control unit" and for a power booster, at "the master control unit". You will use one per system, with an additional white tag used for each "remote power supply" and/or  "control unit".

OUT-OF-SERVICE TAGS: 50 red tags, adhesive backed - imprinted.

REQUIRED BY CODE to indicate a "system" that has been "removed from service".  A tag is also required  to be used for "preplanned impairment programs" that have been "authorized by the impairment coordinator".  While this tag meets this purpose, we recommend using the yellow "impairment" tag instead.

Every installation site should have a supply of these on hand for the "impairment coordinator" or "owner" to use when the fire alarm system is not operational.

Alarm service technicians should have a supply to attach after discovering a non-functioning system during a contracted test/inspection.

IMPAIRMENT TAGS: 50 yellow tags, adhesive backed - imprinted.

You are also REQUIRED BY CODE to indicate when a "portion" of the system has been "removed from service".  While the code doesn't specify a different tag is to be used for "impairments", using a yellow tag allows the service technician to remain in compliance during "preplanned impairment programs".  NFPA 72 states that tests and inspections cause an impairment of a fire alarm system.

Every installation site should have a supply of these for the "impairment coordinator" or "owner" to use when the fire alarm system is found to be only partially operational.

Alarm service technicians use when testing and after discovering a required feature, or an area of protection, is not functioning properly.

SERVICE TAGS: 50 green tags, adhesive backed - imprinted.

While not specifically "required by code", we feel that this is the best way to indicate a system is (back) in service.  When a green service tag is used, it indicates the system has been serviced by a "qualified and experienced" technician.  If the red or yellow impairment tag is allowed to simply be removed (i.e. scraped off) after an impairment, then there will be no indication that proper service has been provided, since there is no indication an impairment ever existed.  However, if the green service tag is signed, dated and indicates the technician’s license number, then it is less likely the system owner has simply scraped off the red or yellow impairment tag.  This way, there should always be either a green tag or an impairment tag indicating the present state of the fire alarm system.  The blue tag is only used to indicate regular testing and inspection is taking place by a "qualified and experienced" individual/company.  We recommend that a small amount of the red or yellow sticker be left visible under the green tag.
